PXE is the calcification of connective tissue which causes blindness, internal bleeding and heart failure. An inherited disorder, PXE is often misdiagnosed, leading to critical delays in treatment. Although in recent years, the Rockbrokers Revue raised money that helped researchers discover the gene carrying PXE, more money is needed to find a cure.

De La Salle Academy was founded in 1984. It is a private, independent, non-sectarian school serving 140 academically talented students in grades six through eight from low-income working-class families. Within this academically rigorous, personally nurturing and accepting community, youngsters learn social responsibility and develop leadership skills.

George Jackson Academy opened its doors in the fall of 2003 by welcoming its first class of 52 boys into its Fourth and Fifth Grades. It currently enrolls 113 students in its Fourth through Eighth Grades. Following the tradition established by De La Salle Academy, but with a focus on boys, the Academy is helping bright boys from less advantaged families identify and celebrate their gifts in a community that will teach them to be successful men and leaders in their chosen professions.
